Who are you?
I’m a human being [laughter]
What do you do for fun besides music?
Swim, walk, think, eat.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Man, I don’t know where I’ll be tomorrow!
What advice would you give to an artist just starting out?
Perform as much as you can and get as much experience as you can singing your own songs and meeting other artists.
Describe your perfect bite.
A donair from the shop on 82nd st and 112 ave.
What genre of music do you consider your music?
Folk Blues.
Who influences you?
Tom Waits, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Cohen, all those old guys.
Briefly describe your music making process.
I always start with the guitar part and then I start signing whatever pops into my head. About 5% of the time I find a cool line and I work from there. I can’t sit down and force a song. It always comes spontaneously.
Music or lyrics first?
Music.
Where can people buy your music?
Megatunes on Whyte Ave or on my MySpace.
What has been your greatest accomplishment to date?
Playing at the Edmonton Folk Festival. That was the most amazing experience.
How many people did you play for at the Folk Festival?
Probably around 10 000.
What can people appreciate about you?
I’m honest.
What’s the most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to you?
There’s been so many. Maybe getting locked out of my hotel room without any clothes on, that was pretty bad.
Were you just standing in the hallway?
I had just had a shower and I had my key card with me and I went to peek outside and the door closed behind me and I couldn’t get back in. I had to walk down to the kitchen and get my dad to let me back in
What brand of instrument do you play?
Collins. They are from Texas and there are only 2 stores in Canada that sell them.
Where can people see you next?
I don’t have anything until March 20th when I’ll be in Calgary for the Trans Canada Alberta Session. (You can follow Joe on his MySpace page to find out more details)
Any last words?
Yes, you know if you’re a performer and an artist when you’re ready get out there and share your talents.
Jodie is an opinionated twitter user.
Who are you?
I’m a girl.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Not in Edmonton but I haven’t decided where I’ll be.
Describe your perfect bite?
Pierogi pizza from Boston Pizza hands down. Then you mix it with the cactus cut dip and it’s so delicious.
What has been your greatest accomplishment to date?
I’m almost finished my degree in accounting.
What’s the most embarrassing thing that has ever happened to you?
This one time I really had to go to the washroom as I was driving home. I was at the point where I felt like I just had to go. I got home and my roommate wanted to talk. I rushed to the washroom and just as I was about to use the washroom. I had to sneeze and well…
You’ve stated that you won’t date men named Chris anymore, why is that?
Because every Chris I have ever dated there has been something wrong. I know it sounds bad. I’ve tried to give the Chris’ chance after chance and I’ve dated more than a handful of Chris’ before and there’s always something wrong with them. This one dude kept doing this weird “ok” thing every time he was talking. I know it sounds weird. (Sorry to the Chris’ of the world.)
You have a blog, how come you aren’t updating it?
I’m having trouble finding the motivation to write the blog. I prefer twitter because I can just write little blurbs and little pieces and stuff.
My most significant moment is…
My whole life is significant to me.
What is one thing people can appreciate about you?
My honesty. I can’t lie.
What would we find in your refrigerator right now?
Stella and Water.
Where are you going next?
Home back to bed, I love napping
